ἀλλ' ἤ,,A = ἀλλά1.3, except, but, after negs., esp. οὐδείς or μηδείς, which are often joined with ἄλλος or ἕτερος, as οὐδεὶς ἀλλ' ἢ ἐκείνη no one except her, Hdt.9.109, cf. Th.3.71, al.;μηδὲν ἄλλο δοκεῖν εἶναι ἀληθὲς ἀλλ' ἢ τὸ σωματοειδές Pl.Phd. 81b
, cf. R. 429b, etc.; ἀργύριονμὲν οὐκ ἔχω ἀλλ' ἢ μικρόν τι X.An.7.7.53
:—after questions implying a neg., Pl.Phdr. 258e :—in Ar.Ach. 1111, 1112 ἀλλ' ἦ (bis) is prob. l. for ἀλλ' ἤ (bis). (This form seems to arise from a confusion of οὐδὲν ἄλλο ἤ other than, except, cf. Hdt.1.49, 9.8, ἄλλο γε ἢ ὅτι.. except that.., and οὐδὲν ἄλλο.. ἀλά.)
